Does a Ceiling Light Need CCC Certification?

After more than ten years in the lighting export business, clients occasionally ask about the China market: does a ceiling light need CCC certification? The answer is clear - it depends on whether the product falls under the compulsory certification catalogue. If it does, CCC certification is mandatory for legal sale.

What Do the Latest Rules Say?

According to national regulations, the updated Compulsory Product Certification Catalogue that took effect on 1 October 2020 officially includes fixed general luminaires (including ceiling lights) in the compulsory scope. Ceiling lights sold through regular channels in the market must carry the CCC mark. These products belong to "lighting equipment with voltage above 36 V," and the certification focuses on key safety points such as circuit safety and protection against electric shock.

Three Points to Check When Buying

  1. The CCC mark on the product body or packaging (it should be properly printed or engraved, not a temporary sticker).
  2. A complete certification number (which can be verified on the national certification and accreditation public information platform).
  3. Whether the instruction manual clearly states the manufacturer's name, address, and technical parameters.

Similar fixed luminaires such as recessed downlights and pendant lights also require CCC certification. LED strips with voltage below 36 V and battery-powered table lamps, however, fall outside the compulsory scope.

If a seller claims that "export-to-domestic products do not need certification," there is usually a compliance risk. It is safer to choose established brands and products with complete certification documents. This helps ensure safety and avoids potential problems later.

In export work, the LED bulkhead light and high-quality bulkhead light models we handle are prepared with the certifications required by the target markets. For domestic sales, IP65 LED bulkhead light products also strictly follow CCC requirements to guarantee circuit safety and protection performance.

In short, ceiling lights with voltage above 36 V must have CCC certification for sale in China. Spending one extra minute to check the mark and number can effectively help you avoid non-compliant products.
