How Can Lighting Simulation Reduce Fixture Quantity and Installation Cost in a Logistics Park?

As an LED street light manufacturer with more than twelve years of export experience, I have supplied lighting to logistics parks, ports and industrial zones in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. Many buyers believe a safe lighting plan means more poles and higher wattage. After years of project work, I can tell you the opposite is often true. A good simulation can cut the fixture count and the installation bill without making the park darker. Here is how it works.

Find Where the Current Plan Wastes Money

Start by sending your supplier the site plan, road widths, building positions and target lux levels. A simulation in DIALux will show where the plan is over-lit, where light falls outside the site and where poles are placed too close together. In my experience, many first-draft layouts contain 10% to 20% more fixtures than needed, simply because nobody checked them on screen. Removing even a few poles saves on foundations, cables, trenching and labor.

Test Beam Type, Pole Height and Spacing

This is where most savings come from. By comparing T2, T3 and T4 beam patterns, you can often increase pole spacing from about 30 meters to 35 or 40 meters while keeping good uniformity. A slightly higher pole in an open yard may let one fixture replace two. Good LED street lights for logistics parks should come with real IES files, so the simulation shows the true result and not a guess. Do not stretch spacing blindly, though, because uniformity matters more than peak brightness.

Right-Size the Wattage for Each Zone

Using the same 200W fixture everywhere is the most common waste I see. Trunk roads, docks, parking yards and walkways need different light levels, for example 15 to 30 lux, 100 to 200 lux, 20 to 50 lux and lower. Simulation lets you lower a 200W fixture to 150W in zones that do not need more, and keep higher output only at gates, docks and intersections. This reduces purchase cost, cabling size and electricity use. Quality LEDs already use 50% to 70% less power than old metal halide lamps, and right-sized wattage adds more savings.

Avoid Rework and Safety Risks

Fewer lights must never mean dark spots. Simulation checks uniformity, glare and shadow areas before you order, so you do not discover problems after installation. A driver in a high truck cab can be dazzled, even for two seconds, so glare must be checked as carefully as brightness. Fixing a wrong layout on site means moving poles, hiring lifts and losing working time, which costs far more than the simulation itself.

Choose a Supplier Whose Products Match the Data

With fewer fixtures, each one carries more responsibility. Replacing a single light on a 10-meter pole means hiring a lift, closing a lane and losing working hours, so I suggest an LED lighting supplier with 5 year warranty and a real factory behind it. As an LED lighting OEM manufacturer, we also customize wattage, beam angle, color temperature and branding for project buyers and distributors. Our quality standard includes:

  • Branded LED chips and drivers, 100% aging test before packing
  • Die-cast aluminum housing, IP66 / IK08, 6kV to 10kV surge protection, CE and RoHS certified, with real IES files and test reports for DIALux design

When a customer asks me for a 5-year warranty, I can say yes with confidence, because we test before shipment, not after complaints.

Conclusion

Lighting simulation helps you remove unnecessary poles, right-size wattage and avoid rework, so you save on both purchase and installation cost. Our LED street lights are built with strict quality control, so their real performance matches the simulation, year after year.
