How Can Proper Light Distribution Reduce the Number of LED Street Lights in a Logistics Park?

As an LED street light manufacturer with more than twelve years of export experience, I have supplied lighting to logistics parks, ports and industrial zones in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. Many buyers think that more poles always mean better lighting. In my experience, that is not true. Light distribution, also called beam pattern, often matters more than the number of fixtures. A well-designed layout can reduce poles, cabling and installation cost without making the park darker. Here is how I explain it to my customers.

Understand Why Many Parks Have Too Many Lights

When a park has dark spots, the usual reaction is to add more poles. But the real cause is often the wrong beam pattern: light is wasted on the sides, thrown into the sky or concentrated right under the pole. Adding more fixtures to a poor design only increases electricity cost and glare. Fix the optics first, and you may find that you need fewer lights.

Match the Beam Type to the Road or Yard

Type II suits narrow roads, Type III suits wider trunk roads, and Type IV or Type V suits open yards, intersections and parking areas. With the right beam, each fixture covers a bigger effective area. For example, a 200W fixture with a Type III beam on a 10-meter pole can often reach a pole spacing of 35 to 40 meters while keeping good uniformity. Good LED street lights for logistics parks should come with IES files, so your designer can test different beam options before you order.

Use Higher Poles and Wider Coverage Where It Makes Sense

In large open areas such as truck parking and container yards, fewer high poles with 300W to 400W fixtures and a wide beam usually work better than many low poles. You save on poles, foundations and cabling. But glare and shadows between containers must be checked carefully, so always confirm the result with a DIALux simulation. Do not stretch the spacing blindly, because uniformity matters more than peak brightness.

Control Glare and Spill Light

Good optics send light to the ground where it is needed, not outside the fence or into drivers' eyes. A driver in a high truck cab can be dazzled, even for two seconds, if the optics are poor. Low-glare, high-efficiency lenses also let you reach the target lux level with less wattage. Pair them with smart dimming and motion sensors, and you save even more: quality LEDs already use 50% to 70% less electricity than old metal halide lamps.

Choose a Supplier Who Can Support the Design

A reduced-pole layout only works if each fixture performs as tested, since fewer lights means each one carries more responsibility. Replacing one fixture on a 10-meter pole means hiring a lift, closing a lane and losing working hours. That is why I suggest an LED lighting supplier with 5 year warranty and a real factory behind it. As an LED lighting OEM manufacturer, we also customize wattage, beam angle, color temperature and branding for project buyers and distributors. Our quality standard includes:

  • Branded LED chips and drivers, 100% aging test before packing
  • Die-cast aluminum housing, IP66 / IK08, 6kV to 10kV surge protection, CE and RoHS certified, with IES files and test reports for DIALux design

When a customer asks me for a 5-year warranty, I can say yes with confidence, because we test before shipment, not after complaints.

Conclusion

The right beam pattern, pole height and spacing can reduce the number of LED street lights while keeping the park bright, even and safe. Our lights are built with strict quality control, so they stay bright, stable and reliable for years.
