After more than a decade in foreign trade, factory clients often ask me: "What color temperature is best for factory lighting?" The wrong choice can make the space look dim and reduce efficiency, or feel too harsh and increase eye fatigue. Here is a practical guide based on our daily shipments and client feedback.
Color temperature is measured in Kelvin (K). Higher numbers mean cooler, whiter light. Factory lighting focuses on clarity, contrast and comfort during long shifts, unlike offices or homes. A proper LED triproof lamp delivers stable color temperature along with solid protection.
Common range for factories
Most manufacturing and warehouse areas work well with 4000K to 5000K.
- Around 4000K is neutral white-natural and comfortable for long working hours.
- 5000K is cooler white with higher brightness and contrast, better for precision tasks.
Warm white below 3000K is rarely used in factories; it can make the space feel dim and lower productivity. Above 6000K often feels too harsh and increases visual fatigue.
Adjust by area
- General processing and assembly: 4000K–4500K for a balance of clarity and comfort.
- Precision inspection or quality-control zones: up to 5000K for better detail recognition.
- Logistics and storage: many clients choose a led warehouse light solution, usually around 4000K for even, non-glaring light.
- Areas with explosion risks: once the required Explosion-proof linear light rating is met, the same color-temperature logic applies.
Combine with protection
Factories are often damp and dusty. Suitable color temperature still needs reliable protection. Confirm the product reaches an IP65 waterproof light rating so that color and brightness stay stable and do not shift or drop because of dust or moisture.
Also check color tolerance and color rendering. Tight tolerance keeps batch consistency; CRI of 80 or higher gives more accurate color appearance, which helps inspection and daily work.
