How to Create a Zoned Lighting Plan for Different Work Areas in a Logistics Park

As an LED street light manufacturer with more than twelve years of export experience, I have supplied lighting to logistics parks, ports and industrial zones in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. Many buyers ask me for one lighting solution for the whole park. I always explain that a logistics park is made of very different work areas, and each one has its own safety, visibility and energy needs. A zoned plan costs less in the long run and works much better. Here is how I build it with my customers.

Divide the Park by Function and Risk

Start with the site plan and mark every zone: gates, trunk roads, branch roads, loading docks, reversing areas, truck parking, container yards, perimeter fences and staff walkways. Then rank each zone by traffic, risk and security level. This simple step shows where you need strong light, where moderate light is enough, and where smart dimming can save energy. Skipping it is the most common mistake I see in new projects.

Set a Clear Lighting Target for Each Zone

Every zone needs its own numbers. These are the reference values I usually share with customers:

  • Gates and loading docks: 100 to 200 lux, 4000K to 5000K, 100W to 250W fixtures at 8 to 12 meters
  • Trunk roads: 15 to 30 lux, 120W to 200W at 8 to 10 meters, Type II or III beam
  • Truck parking and container yards: 20 to 50 lux, 150W to 300W on high poles, Type IV or V beam
  • Perimeter and walkways: lower output, 30W to 60W on 4 to 6 meter poles, 3000K to 4000K for comfort

These are starting points only. Always confirm them in a DIALux simulation using the supplier's IES files.

Pay Extra Attention to Transition Areas

Drivers move from one zone to another all night, so the light level should change gradually. A sudden jump from a bright dock to a dark road forces the eyes to readjust, and that is when accidents happen. Reduce pole spacing by 20% to 30% at intersections, gates and turns, and keep glare low. A driver of a loaded truck cannot afford to be dazzled, even for two seconds. Good LED street lights for logistics parks should create smooth, even light across the whole route.

Add Smart Control Zone by Zone

Zoning also makes smart control easy. Keep docks and trunk roads at a stable base level during shifts, and lower the output of perimeters, quiet branch roads and parking areas late at night, with motion sensors raising the light when someone approaches. Quality LEDs already save 50% to 70% electricity compared with old metal halide or sodium lamps, and with zoned dimming many of my customers recover the investment within two to three years.

Use One Reliable Supplier for the Whole Project

Different zones need different wattages and beam types, but quality must be consistent everywhere. Replacing one fixture on a 10-meter pole means hiring a lift, closing a lane and losing working hours, so I suggest an LED lighting supplier with 5 year warranty and a real factory behind it. As an LED lighting OEM manufacturer, we also customize wattage, beam angle, color temperature and branding for project buyers and distributors. Our quality standard includes:

  • Branded LED chips and drivers, 100% aging test before packing
  • Die-cast aluminum housing, IP66 / IK08, 6kV to 10kV surge protection, CE and RoHS certified, with IES files and test reports for DIALux design

When a customer asks me for a 5-year warranty, I can say yes with confidence, because we test before shipment, not after complaints.

Conclusion

A good zoned lighting plan divides the park by function, sets clear targets for each area, smooths the transitions and adds smart control. Our LED street lights are built with strict quality control, so they stay bright, stable and reliable for years.
