How to Design Outdoor Lighting for Warehouse Entrances in a Logistics Park

As an LED street light manufacturer with more than twelve years of export experience, I have supplied lighting to logistics parks, ports and industrial zones in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. Warehouse entrances look simple on the drawing, but at night they are one of the busiest and riskiest spots in the park. Trucks reverse in, forklifts cross the doorway, and workers check cargo under the lights. Here is how I advise customers to design this area.

Know What Happens at the Entrance

Before choosing any fixture, list the real activities: truck reversing, forklift crossing, cargo inspection, security checks and staff walking in and out. Each activity needs clear vision. In my experience, an average of about 100 to 200 lux in the working zone in front of the door, with good uniformity, is a safe starting point. Lighting that is bright at the door but dark in the approach lane is a common mistake I see on site.

Light the Approach, the Door and the Apron Together

Do not light only the doorway. The truck approach lane, the door area and the apron in front of it should form one continuous, even lighting zone. Poles of 8 to 10 meters with 100W to 200W fixtures, placed along the building edge or at the sides of the entrance, usually work well. Good LED street lights for logistics parks with a Type III or Type IV beam spread the light across the apron and reduce shadows behind trucks. Reduce spacing near the door by 20% to 30% to avoid dark gaps.

Control Glare for Drivers and Workers

Strong glare at an entrance is dangerous. A truck driver reversing at night cannot afford to be dazzled, even for two seconds, and forklift drivers also lose sight of pedestrians in glare. Choose fixtures with good cut-off and low glare, and avoid aiming lights straight at the door opening. Use a color temperature of 4000K to 5000K with CRI 70 or above, so cargo labels, seals and safety markings are easy to read.

Use Smart Control for Security and Savings

Entrances need strong light when activity is high, but not all night. With dimming and motion sensors, lights can stay at a stable base level and rise to full output when a truck or person approaches. This also helps CCTV capture clear images of plates and faces. Quality LEDs already save 50% to 70% electricity compared with old metal halide lamps, and with smart control many customers recover the investment within two to three years.

Choose a Supplier Who Stands Behind the Product

An entrance light that fails at night stops work and creates a safety risk. Replacing one fixture on a 10-meter pole means hiring a lift, closing the loading lane and losing working hours. That is why I suggest an LED lighting supplier with 5 year warranty and a real factory behind it. As an LED lighting OEM manufacturer, we also customize wattage, beam angle, color temperature and branding for project buyers and distributors. Our quality standard includes:

  • Branded LED chips and drivers, 100% aging test before packing
  • Die-cast aluminum housing, IP66 / IK08, 6kV to 10kV surge protection, CE and RoHS certified, with IES files and test reports for DIALux design

When a customer asks me for a 5-year warranty, I can say yes with confidence, because we test before shipment, not after complaints.

Conclusion

A good warehouse entrance design lights the approach, door and apron evenly, controls glare, uses accurate color and adds smart control. Our LED street lights are built with strict quality control, so they stay bright, stable and reliable for years.
