A logistics park client called last week, sounding stressed. Night truck traffic was heavy, the old sodium lamps had lost most of their punch after years of use, and drivers kept complaining they couldn't see the road properly near the loading bays. A couple of near-misses had already happened. He wanted something that would actually fix the light levels, cut the glare, and last.
I've seen this pattern more times than I can count. Over ten years of supplying industrial and logistics sites from Southeast Asia to the Middle East, the same issues keep turning up: wide roads, high truck cabs, dust, rain, and lights that have to run hard for long stretches of the night. What actually makes logistics-park roads difficult
These roads aren't ordinary city streets. Trucks are taller, traffic is denser, and the carriageways are often wider. You need enough light on the surface without blinding the drivers. Glare that would be acceptable on a quiet residential road becomes a real hazard here.
The environment is also harder. Dust, rain, and the occasional impact mean IP66 and IK08 are the minimum. Anything less and you're looking at water ingress or cracked housings within months.
Then there's the duty cycle. Many parks keep the lights on at high output for most of the night, sometimes around the clock. Lumen drop and early failures show up fast. One client ran domestic-chip lamps that were already below 70 % output after six months. The complaint emails were blunt. They changed suppliers shortly after.

The chip is only part of the story, of course. Heat sinking, driver quality, and the optical design matter just as much. A good chip in a poorly designed housing still fails early.

How we usually size the lamps
Branch roads with lighter traffic: 100 W is often enough. Mounting height 6–8 m, spacing adjusted to the actual width. Target around 15–20 lux once the survey numbers are in.
Main truck routes: 150–200 W. Heights of 8–12 m are common. We aim for 25–40 lux so drivers can see further and with less strain. Spacing has to be checked carefully; too wide and the uniformity falls apart.
Warehouse yards or open areas sometimes need high-mast luminaires. Fewer poles, wider coverage, easier maintenance access.
Anti-glare optics are worth the extra attention. Drivers working long night shifts notice the difference immediately when the light is pushed down onto the road instead of into their eyes. On one recent project, the site manager said the first thing the drivers commented on was that the road "looked clearer" and the complaints dropped within weeks.
All the numbers above are starting points only. Final choice always depends on measured road width, surface reflectance, and the actual mounting positions. Spec-sheet decisions without a site check are where most of the later problems start.

A: Yes. Most parks settle on 4000–5000 K. Warmer or cooler extremes tend to feel wrong for night truck work. Beam angles can be adjusted once we know the road width and pole height.
