As an LED street light manufacturer with more than twelve years of export experience, I have supplied lighting to logistics parks in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America. Many buyers ask me to quote one wattage for the whole park, because it makes ordering and installation simpler. My honest answer is always the same: main roads and branch roads should not use the same power. Here is why.
Main Roads Carry Heavy Traffic and Need More Power
Trunk roads carry loaded container trucks day and night, and these vehicles need a long braking distance. For this reason, I usually recommend 120W to 200W fixtures mounted at 8 to 10 meters, with a Type II or Type III beam distribution and a color temperature of 4000K to 5000K. Good LED street lights for logistics parks on main roads give strong, even light, so drivers can see lane lines, signs and pedestrians early. Pole spacing of about 3.5 to 4 times the mounting height avoids dark gaps.
Branch Roads Need Less Power, but Not Weak Light
Branch roads link warehouses, parking areas and docks. Traffic is slower and lighter, so 60W to 100W fixtures on 6 to 8 meter poles are often enough. But "lower power" does not mean "dark." Branch roads have many turns, forklifts and walking workers, so uniform light is still important. I have seen parks save money with very weak lights on side roads, then pay much more later because of accidents and complaints.
Match Wattage to Real Needs, Not to Habit
Using 200W lights everywhere wastes electricity and creates glare. Using 60W lights everywhere leaves main roads too dark. The right approach is to calculate the lux level and uniformity for each road type, and run a DIALux simulation before ordering. This avoids over-spending and under-lighting. With smart dimming, you can also lower the output of branch roads late at night and raise it when a vehicle approaches. Quality LEDs already save 50% to 70% electricity compared with old sodium lamps, and zoned wattage plus dimming saves even more.
Keep Intersections and Turns Brighter
Where main roads meet branch roads, the risk is highest. Drivers must slow down, check signs and watch for crossing vehicles. I always suggest higher illuminance at these junctions, even if the branch road itself uses a lower wattage. A small adjustment here costs little and improves safety a lot.
Choose a Supplier Who Can Customize and Stand Behind the Product
Different roads need different wattages, so you need a partner who can offer a full range. As an LED lighting OEM manufacturer, we customize wattage, beam angle, color temperature and branding for project buyers and distributors. Replacing one fixture on a 10-meter pole means hiring a lift, closing a lane and losing working hours, so I also suggest choosing an LED lighting supplier with a 5-year warranty. Our quality standard includes:
- Branded LED chips and drivers, 100% aging test before packing
- Die-cast aluminum housing, IP66 / IK08, 6kV to 10kV surge protection, CE and RoHS certified, with IES files and test reports for DIALux design
When a customer asks me for a 5-year warranty, I can say yes with confidence, because we test before shipment, not after complaints.
Conclusion
Main roads and branch roads should use different wattages, matched to traffic, speed and risk, with brighter lighting at intersections. Our LED street lights are built with strict quality control, so they stay bright, stable and reliable for years.
