Street Lights or High Mast Lighting for Large Parking Areas in a Logistics Park?

As an LED street light manufacturer with more than twelve years of export experience, I have supplied lighting to logistics parks, ports and industrial zones in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. When buyers plan a large parking area, they often ask me: "Should I use normal street light poles, or go with high mast lighting?" Both can work well. The right answer depends on the size of the area, the layout and your maintenance plan. Here is how I explain it to my customers.

Start with the Size and Shape of the Area

For a parking area of a few thousand square meters, or a long, narrow layout along a road or building, standard street light poles of 8 to 12 meters usually work very well. For a very large, open yard with no obstacles, high mast poles of 15 to 25 meters can cover more ground with fewer poles. Before choosing any hardware, measure the area, mark the vehicle lanes and list the activities. Then choose the tool.

When Street Light Poles Are the Better Choice

Street light poles give more even light, because the light comes from several positions and shadows behind trucks are reduced. With 200W to 300W fixtures at 10 to 12 meters and a Type III or Type IV beam, good LED street lights for logistics parks can reach a uniform 20 to 50 lux. Installation is simple, maintenance is easier, and you can dim each zone separately. I recommend this solution for most medium-sized parking areas and for any layout with buildings or fences nearby.

When High Mast Lighting Makes More Sense

For huge open yards, a high mast with multiple 300W to 500W heads can cover a very large area with fewer poles. You save on cabling and ground space, and fewer poles mean fewer obstacles for trucks. The trade-offs are higher installation cost, more difficult maintenance and a greater risk of glare and spill light if the design is careless. A driver in a high truck cab can be dazzled, even for two seconds, so optics and aiming must be checked carefully.

Consider Maintenance and Running Cost

High mast systems often use a lifting mechanism or need a crane, and a service visit can be costly. Standard poles can be reached with an ordinary lift truck. Whichever you choose, add smart dimming and motion sensors, so the lights stay at a stable base level and rise when a vehicle enters. Quality LEDs already save 50% to 70% electricity compared with old metal halide lamps. Always confirm the final layout with a DIALux simulation based on the supplier's IES files.

Choose a Supplier Who Stands Behind the Product

Open parking yards face lightning, heavy rain, dust and heat. Replacing one fixture on a 12-meter pole means hiring a lift, closing part of the yard and losing working hours. That is why I suggest an LED lighting supplier with 5 year warranty and a real factory behind it. As an LED lighting OEM manufacturer, we also customize wattage, beam angle, color temperature and branding for project buyers and distributors. Our quality standard includes:

  • Branded LED chips and drivers, 100% aging test before packing
  • Die-cast aluminum housing, IP66 / IK08, 6kV to 10kV surge protection, CE and RoHS certified, with IES files and test reports for DIALux design

When a customer asks me for a 5-year warranty, I can say yes with confidence, because we test before shipment, not after complaints.

Conclusion

Choose street light poles for medium or irregular parking areas, and high mast lighting for very large, open yards, or combine both for the best result. Our LED street lights are built with strict quality control, so they stay bright, stable, and reliable for years.
