Truck Reversing Areas in a Logistics Park: Key Lighting Factors to Consider

As an LED street light manufacturer with more than twelve years of export experience, I have supplied lighting to logistics parks, ports and industrial zones in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. If you ask me which area causes the most "I did not see it" accidents at night, I will say the reversing zone. The driver has limited rear vision, workers walk close to the truck, and forklifts cross behind it. Here are the lighting factors I always discuss with customers.

Light the Whole Reversing Path, Not Just the Dock

A truck needs a clear view of the approach lane, the turning space and the dock position. Lighting only the dock door leaves the path dark, and this is a mistake I often see on site. I suggest an average of about 50 to 100 lux in the reversing path and 100 to 200 lux at the dock itself, with good uniformity. Good LED street lights for logistics parks should create one continuous lit zone from the entrance of the yard to the loading position.

Eliminate Shadows Behind the Truck

A big truck blocks light and creates a dark shadow right where workers and ground staff stand. The solution is to light from more than one direction. Use poles of 8 to 12 meters on both sides of the reversing lane, or at opposite ends of the dock row, with 150W to 250W fixtures. A Type III or Type IV beam spreads light wide and fills the gaps. Always confirm the shadow areas with a DIALux simulation based on the supplier's IES files.

Control Glare for Drivers and Reversing Cameras

Glare is dangerous here. A driver looking through mirrors and rear cameras at night can be dazzled, even for two seconds, and lose sight of a person behind the truck. Avoid fixtures aimed straight at the reversing direction. Choose low-glare optics with good cut-off, so the light falls on the ground and not into the driver's eyes. Good lighting also helps rear cameras give a clear image.

Choose Color Temperature That Makes Hazards Visible

I recommend 4000K to 5000K with CRI 70 or above. This makes safety lines, pedestrian markings, wheel stops and cargo labels sharp and easy to recognize. Weak, yellow-cast light hides ground obstacles and low objects, exactly what a reversing driver needs to see.

Add Smart Control and Choose a Reliable Supplier

Reversing areas are busiest during loading peaks. With dimming and motion sensors, lights can stay at a stable base level and rise to full output when a truck enters, which saves energy. Quality LEDs already use 50% to 70% less electricity than old metal halide lamps. A light that fails here is a safety risk, and replacing one fixture on a 10-meter pole means hiring a lift, closing the lane and losing working hours. That is why I suggest an LED lighting supplier with 5 year warranty and a real factory behind it. As an LED lighting OEM manufacturer, we also customize wattage, beam angle, color temperature and branding for project buyers and distributors. Our quality standard includes:

  • Branded LED chips and drivers, 100% aging test before packing
  • Die-cast aluminum housing, IP66 / IK08, 6kV to 10kV surge protection, CE and RoHS certified, with IES files and test reports for DIALux design

When a customer asks me for a 5-year warranty, I can say yes with confidence, because we test before shipment, not after complaints.

Conclusion

For truck reversing areas, light the full path, remove shadows with multi-direction lighting, control glare, use accurate color and add smart control. Our LED street lights are built with strict quality control, so they stay bright, stable and reliable for years.
