What Certifications Should Supermarket LED Lights Have?

When purchasing supermarket lighting, certifications are often checked only after price. In practice they affect safety compliance, project acceptance and later risk. Requirements vary by market, yet several types of proof are almost universal. Here's a practical list based on export and project experience.

1. Safety and EMC certifications
For Europe and similar markets, CE is usually required (including LVD and EMC-related needs). Some clients also ask for a CB report.        North American projects more often look for UL or ETL. These show the fixture meets basic rules on electrical safety and interference control and are common documents at retail project handover.

2. Hazardous substance and environmental requirements
RoHS is a frequent requirement, limiting substances such as lead and mercury. Some regions or retail chains also ask for stricter environmental or material declarations. Complete files help pass compliance checks by the brand or the contractor.

3. Protection and performance evidence
Fresh and back-of-house wet zones use protected products. When buying an LED tri-proof light, do not rely only on the claimed IP rating-ask for matching test evidence so that brochure figures align with the actual product.

4. Photometric and light-safety data
Some projects require photobiological safety data, flicker results, or lumen and colour-temperature reports to keep store visuals consistent.

If a weatherproof LED batten light is used in back aisles, batch-consistent optical data also helps reduce colour variation on delivery.

5. Extra attention for wet and special zones
Around cold cabinets, in wash-down rooms and at receiving transitions, confirm that protection documents match the site.

When specifying something like an IP65 LED tri-proof light, the certificate model should match the supplied model exactly-not another model from the same series.

More certificates are not always better. They should match the target market, the accepting party and the installation zone. Genuine, model-matched and traceable documents matter more than a long list of logos.
