LED driver is an electronic device used to convert AC power into DC power suitable for LED lights and provide stable current or voltage to drive LED lights. Compared to this, LED transformers are mainly devices used to change voltage, converting high-voltage alternating current into lower voltage alternating current, but do not provide stable current or voltage output. LED transformers are commonly used in traditional lighting systems, such as fluorescent lamps or halogen lamps.
Differences in working principles and functions
Current control:
The LED driver has a current regulation function, which can stably output a constant current to ensure the brightness and color stability of the LED light.
LED transformers are mainly used for voltage conversion and cannot provide stable current output, so they are not suitable for driving LED lights.
Power type:
LED drivers are usually DC power sources that can directly provide the required DC power to LED lights.
LED transformers are AC power sources that require additional rectification and filtering devices to provide suitable power for LED lights.
Power factor and efficiency:
LED drivers typically have high power factor and efficiency, which can more effectively utilize electricity and reduce energy waste.
The power factor and efficiency of LED transformers are relatively low, and they are prone to energy loss and heat generation.
Dimming performance:
Some LED drivers have dimming function, which can adjust the brightness and color temperature of LED lights as needed, providing more flexible lighting solutions.
Most LED transformers do not have dimming function and can only achieve switch control, unable to achieve precise brightness adjustment.
Differences in application fields
LED lighting system:
LED drivers are widely used in LED lighting systems, such as indoor lighting, landscape lighting, road lighting, etc., providing stable current output to ensure the normal operation of LED lights.
LED transformers are less commonly used in LED lighting systems and are more commonly used for the renovation or maintenance of traditional lighting systems.
Energy management:
LED drivers can achieve energy management, improve energy utilization, reduce energy consumption and costs by adjusting current and brightness.
LED transformers have poor performance in energy management and are prone to energy waste and unnecessary losses.
