1, Overview of IP Protection Levels
The IP protection level consists of two digits, the first digit representing the device's protection level against solid foreign objects, and the second digit representing the device's protection level against water. These two numbers together constitute the overall protection level identification of the equipment.
Solid foreign object protection level:
IP0X： Unprotected, meaning that the equipment casing does not provide any form of solid foreign object protection.
IP1X： It can prevent solid objects larger than 50 millimeters from entering.
IP2X： It can prevent solid objects larger than 12 millimeters from entering.
IP3X： It can prevent solid objects larger than 2.5 millimeters from entering.
IP4X： It can prevent solid objects larger than 1 millimeter from entering.
IP5X： It can prevent harmful dust accumulation and is suitable for dusty environments.
IP6X： Completely dust-proof, meaning that the device casing can completely prevent dust from entering.
Waterproof grade:
IPX0： Unprotected, meaning that the equipment casing does not provide any form of water protection.
IPX1： Protection against vertical falling water, the product can prevent water droplets from falling when used indoors.
IPX2： Protect against inclined water flow, which can prevent continuous water flow from seeping into the interior when the product tilts up to 15 degrees.
IPX3： Protective watering can prevent rainwater and other sprayed water from seeping in when the product tilts up to 60 degrees.
IPX4： Protect against water splashes, able to withstand water jets from all directions, simulating rainwater splashing situations.
IPX5： Protect the low-pressure water column and be able to withstand a 6.3mm inner diameter water column ejected from the nozzle.
IPX6： Protective strong water column, capable of withstanding a strong water column with an inner diameter of 12.5mm ejected from the nozzle.
IPX7： Protection against temporary immersion, capable of withstanding immersion under specified time and pressure.
IPX8： Continuous immersion protection ensures that the equipment can remain submerged underwater and maintain normal operation.
IPX9： Protect against high-pressure/high-temperature cleaning, capable of withstanding the dense and strong water flow of high-pressure cleaners.
2, Waterproof and dustproof performance of LED linear lights
LED linear light is a high-end flexible decorative light, widely used in indoor and outdoor entertainment venues, building contour drawing, and billboard production due to its low power consumption, long lifespan, high brightness, easy bending, and maintenance free characteristics. For LED linear lights, waterproof and dustproof performance is one of their important technical indicators, directly related to their service life and safety.
Waterproof performance:
The waterproof performance of LED linear lights mainly depends on their housing material and sealing structure. High quality LED linear lights usually use corrosion-resistant materials such as aluminum alloy as the shell, and are sealed through special processes to ensure good waterproof performance. According to the IP protection level standard, the waterproof level of LED linear lights can usually reach IP65 or higher. This means that LED linear lights can withstand water jets from various directions (such as simulating rainwater splashing) and low-pressure water column jets without experiencing water seepage or leakage. In outdoor applications, this performance is particularly important because outdoor lighting fixtures require prolonged exposure to harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, and wind. If water enters the lamp, it will cause problems such as short circuit, leakage, corrosion, and damage, seriously affecting its service life and safety.
Dustproof performance:
In addition to waterproof performance, the dustproof performance of LED linear lights is equally important. Dust not only affects the heat dissipation effect of lamps and reduces their service life, but also may cause safety hazards such as circuit short circuits. Therefore, high-quality LED linear lights typically adopt a completely dust-proof design, with an IP6X rating. This means that the lamp housing can completely prevent dust from entering the interior, thereby ensuring the stability and safety of the lamp. This performance is particularly important in dusty environments such as factories, workshops, and other places.
