What Key Factors Should You Consider for Logistics Park Outdoor Lighting?

I have worked in the lighting export business for over twelve years, and I have supplied LED street lights to logistics parks in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. Many buyers start by comparing prices and wattage. But in my experience, a successful outdoor lighting project depends on a few key factors that are easy to miss at the beginning. Here is the checklist I share with every customer.

Lighting Level and Uniformity

Different zones need different brightness. Gates and loading docks need about 100 to 200 lux, while trunk roads and parking areas can work well with lower levels. But the number alone is not enough. Uniformity matters just as much. Dark patches between poles are where accidents and theft happen. Good roadway LED lighting with the right beam distribution (Type II or Type III for roads) keeps the light even along the whole route.

Pole Height and Spacing

A common mistake is choosing the fixture first and the pole later. I always suggest the opposite. Pole spacing is usually 3.5 to 4 times the mounting height, so a 10-meter pole fits trunk roads, while 4 to 6 meters suits walkways. High-pole layouts with 150W to 300W fixtures work well in container yards, because they reduce the number of poles and the cabling cost.

Glare Control and Color Temperature

Drivers of loaded trucks cannot afford to be dazzled, even for two seconds. Choose fixtures with good optical design and low glare. For color temperature, 4000K to 5000K is good for gates and work areas, while 3000K to 4000K feels more comfortable on staff walkways.

Smart Control and Energy Saving

Electricity is the largest running cost of any lighting system. A smart outdoor light with dimming, timers and motion sensors can cut energy use by a large margin, since the lights run at full power only when needed. For perimeter fences and quiet roads, this is a very practical solution, and many of my customers recover their investment within two to three years.

Weather Resistance and Surge Protection

Logistics parks face dust, heavy rain, salt air and high heat. I recommend IP66 or higher and IK08 impact resistance as the minimum. Open yards also attract lightning, so ask for built-in surge protection of 6kV to 10kV. I have seen cheap lights fail after the first storm season, and the replacement cost was much higher than the money saved at purchase.

Maintenance and Total Cost

Replacing one fixture on a 10-meter pole means hiring a lift, closing a lane and losing working hours. So the unit price is not the real cost. The real cost is price plus maintenance over five to ten years. That is why strict quality control LED engineering lighting is the base of every order we ship:

  • Branded LED chips and drivers, 100% aging test before packing
  • Die-cast aluminum housing with anti-corrosion coating, CE and RoHS certified, IES files and test reports available for DIALux design

When a customer asks me for a 5-year warranty, I can say yes with confidence, because we test before shipment, not after complaints.

Conclusion

A good outdoor lighting plan for a logistics park balances brightness, uniformity, glare control, energy saving, weather resistance and long-term maintenance cost. Our LED street lights are built with strict quality control, so they stay bright, stable and low-maintenance for years.
