Strategic Agreement Targets Mini LED Direct Display

On August 11, Jucan Optoelectronics announced the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement with Unilumin Technology. The two companies will establish a long-term partnership focused on stable supply of Mini direct display chips, technical collaboration, and quality co-development for Mini LED products.

Under the agreement, Unilumin commits to a guaranteed minimum purchase value of no less than 50 million yuan from Jucan Optoelectronics for 2026, with subsequent annual minimum amounts to be negotiated by the end of each preceding year. The collaboration spans LED chips, packaging, and display application segments, aiming to advance Mini LED direct display products in commercial display, conference all-in-one machines, and rental display markets.

Comprehensive Scope Including Subsidiaries

The cooperation covers Unilumin's display and lighting subsidiaries, including Rodia Vision, Hangzhou Bonnie, and Shandong Tsinghua Kangli. In terms of mechanism, Unilumin receives priority promotion rights for Jucan's new products, while Jucan gains priority cooperation rights for Unilumin's custom development projects - creating a reciprocal partnership that strengthens both companies' competitive positions in the MLED value chain.

Jucan's Mini LED Progress and Capacity Buildout

Jucan Optoelectronics has been steadily advancing its Mini LED chip product development and capacity expansion. On August 4, the company announced that its wide-viewing-angle Mini LED direct display chips had achieved mass production delivery and entered the scale-up supply phase. On July 30, the company disclosed progress across two Mini LED product lines: the BGB-Mini backlight standard-mount solution had achieved mass production, while the RGB-Mini backlight flip-chip solution had entered small-batch pilot production with an overseas terminal customer, with mass production expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.

On the capacity front, Jucan's red and yellow light gallium arsenide project Phase 1 has reached full production at 100,000 wafers per month. The project's overall plan targets annual production of 2.4 million red and yellow light epitaxial wafers and chips. Additionally, the company's annual 6-million-piece silver mirror flip-chip technical transformation project was finalized in July, representing a 400-million-yuan investment primarily targeting automotive headlamp-grade, plant lighting, and ultra-high-definition display applications.

Unilumin's Upstream Integration Strategy

Unilumin Technology has been extending its reach upstream in the MLED supply chain. Its Nanchang base expansion project includes a MIP (chip-level packaging) production line expected to begin production in mid-August, with a total investment not exceeding 600 million yuan, primarily manufacturing high-end LED display products.

Further upstream, in January 2026, Unilumin established the Nanchang Zhouming Equity Investment Fund with a total scale of 100 million yuan, focusing on packaging materials, driver ICs, precision equipment, and testing equipment across the industrial chain. This fund represents a strategic move to secure influence over critical supply chain nodes and ensure access to next-generation MLED technologies.

Market Context and MLED Trajectory

The partnership between Jucan and Unilumin reflects broader industry consolidation in the MLED sector, where vertical integration between chip manufacturers and display system integrators is accelerating. As Mini LED direct display technology matures and production costs decline, applications are expanding from premium commercial displays into mainstream markets including conference room systems, rental staging, and increasingly, residential television.

The 50-million-yuan guaranteed purchase commitment provides Jucan with revenue visibility while giving Unilumin supply security - a model that is becoming common practice in the Chinese MLED industry as companies seek to de-risk supply chains amid geopolitical uncertainty.

Industry Perspective

For international buyers evaluating LED display and lighting supply chains, the Jucan-Unilumin partnership demonstrates that China's MLED ecosystem is achieving manufacturing maturity at scale - with implications that extend beyond displays to any LED lighting manufacturer sourcing premium LED chips and packaging. As a UL ETL certified LED lights manufacturer, Luxsky Lighting - an LED lighting manufacturer that sources chips from certified suppliers - observes that Mini LED advances in the display sector drive parallel improvements in LED chip efficacy, packaging precision, and thermal management, capabilities that ultimately benefit the broader LED lighting industry and the buyers who source from a UL ETL certified LED lights manufacturer such as Luxsky.
