As an LED street light manufacturer with more than twelve years of export experience, I have supplied lighting to logistics parks, ports and industrial zones in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. When a buyer asks me about heavy truck lanes, I tell them these roads are the most demanding part of the project. A loaded container truck is heavy, wide and slow to stop. Here is what I recommend.
Choose Enough Power and Brightness
Heavy truck lanes need strong, stable light, because drivers must see far ahead. For these roads, I usually suggest 150W to 250W fixtures mounted at 9 to 12 meters, with a color temperature of 4000K to 5000K. Good LED street lights for heavy truck lanes give drivers enough time to see lane lines, obstacles, forklifts and pedestrians before braking. Do not choose a weak light to save budget, because a loaded truck cannot stop quickly.
Pick the Right Beam Distribution and Pole Spacing
Wide truck lanes need a Type II or Type III beam, which spreads light along and across the road. Keep pole spacing at about 3.5 to 4 times the mounting height, so there are no dark gaps between poles. For wide roads or two-sided traffic, double-arm poles or opposite-side layouts give more uniform results. Always ask your supplier for IES files and a DIALux simulation before ordering.
Control Glare Carefully
A driver sitting high in a truck cab faces light from a different angle than a car driver. Poor optics will dazzle the driver, even for two seconds, and that is a real accident risk. Choose fixtures with good cut-off design and low glare, so light goes to the road and not into the driver's eyes.
Build for Tough Conditions
Truck lanes mean vibration, dust, rain and heat all year round. I recommend IP66 or higher and IK08 impact resistance as the minimum. Heavy trucks passing by create constant vibration, so the housing, driver and wiring must be well built. Open roads also attract lightning, so ask for built-in surge protection of 6kV to 10kV. A cheap light often fails after the first storm season.
Choose a Supplier Who Stands Behind the Product
Replacing one fixture on a 10-meter pole means hiring a lift, closing a truck lane and losing working hours, and in a busy park this is very costly. That is why I suggest working with an LED lighting supplier with 5 year warranty and a real factory behind it. As an LED lighting OEM manufacturer, we also customize wattage, beam angle, color temperature and branding for project buyers and distributors. Our quality standard includes:
- Branded LED chips and drivers, 100% aging test before packing
- Die-cast aluminum housing, IP66 / IK08, 6kV to 10kV surge protection, CE and RoHS certified, with IES files and test reports for DIALux design
When a customer asks me for a 5-year warranty, I can say yes with confidence, because we test before shipment, not after complaints.
Conclusion
Heavy truck lanes need high-output, low-glare, durable LED street lights with the right beam and pole spacing. Our lights are built with strict quality control, so they stay bright, stable and reliable for years, even in tough conditions.
