A County Tunnel Reaches the Renewal Point
The transport bureau of Gongxian county in Yibin, Sichuan, published the winning bid for the second round of its Kutang'ao tunnel lighting system upgrade. Sichuan Minchuan Electric Power Engineering took the contract at 2.3356 million yuan with an evaluation score of 96.52. Like many county-level tunnel projects now reaching the market, this is a renewal of an earlier LED installation rather than a first conversion from sodium.
That distinction changes the engineering brief. The first conversion was about energy. The second is about control, uniformity, and maintenance access, because the tiresome failures in a tunnel are rarely catastrophic. They are gradual: dirt accumulation cutting output, drivers dying in the hottest zone, and sections drifting out of uniformity until the approach looks patchy.
What a Tunnel Specification Has to Cover
Tunnel lighting is governed by adaptation. The threshold and transition zones need far higher luminance than the interior, and the whole system must hold that relationship as lamps age and dirt builds up. A competent led tunnel light specification therefore states maintained luminance, not initial lumens, and includes a maintenance factor based on the actual cleaning interval.
The environment is the second constraint. Tunnels combine constant humidity, exhaust particulate, vibration from heavy vehicles, and high-pressure washing. Fixtures need IP66 sealing, IK impact resistance, vibration-tested mounting, and a finish that survives both diesel soot and alkaline cleaning agents.
