Signify And Unilumin Announce LED Price Hikes As Supply Chain Tightens | LED Lighting Cost Trend

Two of the LED industry's biggest names have moved to raise prices within days of each other. Signify (China) Investment Co., Ltd. announced on August 24 that core product prices will rise 10% to 15% starting October 1, while Shenzhen Unilumin Technology Co., Ltd. said on August 21 that prices across its product lines will be moderately adjusted upward from September 5. Both companies point to the same root cause: tightening semiconductor capacity and persistently rising raw-material costs.

Signify's notice targets its Philips and Storsan branded LED OEM series, specifically outdoor power supplies, indoor power supplies, LED modules, and related accessories. The company explained that global semiconductor capacity and supply-chain resources remain tight, with lead times for certain key electronic components and core raw materials continuing to stretch, especially power-related materials. To cope, Signify said it will keep strengthening critical material reserves and capacity investment.

The Dutch lighting group also issued a practical recommendation to partners: complete demand forecasts and order placement for the next three to six months as early as possible. That advice matters because power supplies and modules are exactly the components a lighting project cannot do without, and a missed booking window can delay an entire installation. In a market where supply is visibly constrained, early commitment is the cheapest form of insurance.

Unilumin, the Shenzhen-based LED display and lighting manufacturer, gave a similar account. The company said core material purchasing costs have risen significantly, and although internal optimization has absorbed part of the pressure, it had to adjust prices to maintain product quality and service stability. Its increase takes effect from September 5 and will roll out gradually over the following ten days, with exact timing and standards set out in the latest quotation sheets or by account managers.

Both notices read as a coordinated signal rather than an isolated event. Unilumin framed the move as a necessary response to market change, while promising to keep easing cost pressure through technical innovation and management optimization. For downstream customers, the takeaway is clear: place stock-up orders before the window closes and keep communication with suppliers frequent, because lead times, not just prices, are now the binding constraint.

For overseas buyers, the news carries a direct implication. When branded suppliers raise OEM power-supply and module prices by double digits, the cost base of every downstream luminaire moves with it. That makes component strategy - who supplies the driver, where it is certified, and how long the price holds - a bigger lever on total landed cost than the fixture's headline price alone.

What should a buyer do in the face of these announcements? First, revalidate quotations rather than assuming old pricing still holds, because component costs are moving under every luminaire. Second, consolidate orders and place them early to secure allocation before lead times stretch further. Third, revisit supplier structure: relying on a single source for drivers or modules is riskier now than it was a year ago, and a qualified second source can be cheap insurance against a single vendor's allocation limits.

It is also worth separating signal from noise. Not every price notice translates one-for-one into street pricing, and competition among mid-tier manufacturers remains real. The buyers who fare best are those who treat the hikes as a prompt to lock in terms, rather than as a reason to delay - because in a tightening component market, waiting rarely produces a lower price.

Luxsky Product Perspective

This pricing shift is a reminder that a reliable luminaire starts with a dependable LED intelligent driver. Luxsky Lighting designs and sources drivers for stable output and long service life, so our partners are less exposed to the last-minute component scrambles that price hikes create. We quote with transparency on driver and module costs and hold pricing for agreed order windows.
