Removing a ceiling light is not a complicated process, but different methods are required depending on the type of ceiling light; overall, however, it is relatively straightforward. Below are the removal methods for different types of ceiling lights:
1. Rectangular snap-fit ceiling lights
- Method 1: Grasp the frame of the ceiling light and pull it downwards. Once you can see the spring, press it firmly inwards towards the ceiling to remove the ceiling light.
- Method 2: If Method 1 does not work, try removing the square cover panel next to the ceiling light (as this is also snap-fitted), then remove the ceiling light.
- Method 3: Use a suction cup hook designed for glass; attach it to the aluminium alloy edge and slowly and steadily pull down on the four corners. Repeat this process to remove the ceiling light.
2. Round Ceiling Lights
- Method 1: First remove the lampshade, then unscrew the fixing screws.
- Method 2: If Method 1 does not work, use one hand to steady the lamp base whilst supporting the lampshade with the other to prevent it from breaking, then slowly rotate the lampshade anti-clockwise to remove the ceiling light.
3. Wrought-iron ceiling lights
Method: Wrought-iron ceiling lights usually have a round iron bead in the centre, which is the key to removing the light. First, hold the lampshade steady, then twist the iron bead to remove the ceiling light.
Summary:
There are generally two types of ceiling light installation: screw-in and clip-on.
- For screw-in ceiling lights, simply turn the shade anti-clockwise to remove it.
- For clip-on ceiling lights, you must first release the clip before turning the shade anti-clockwise.
When removing a ceiling light, please ensure the power is switched off and take care to avoid using excessive force, so as not to damage the light fitting or the ceiling.
